• Pass the letter:           

Resources: letter flashcards.

Children sit in a circle. Show them the letter flashcard, say the sound. Pass the flashcard around the circle. As each child holds the flashcard they say the letter sound.

• Stepping stones:

Resources: letter flashcards.

Place the letter flashcards face up on the floor in a line (like stepping stones). Children say the letter sound as they step on or near each letter.

• Alphabet Spaghetti; Resources: 2 long pieces of string/ribbon per group. The children make two groups. Say a letter sound. The groups race to form the letter shape with the string or ribbon and say the sound.

• Sound Chain:

Resources: whiteboard, markers, letter flashcards (optional).

The children make two lines leading to the board. Sit at the back, and say a letter sound to the last child on each line (child 1). Child 1 says the sound, then children 1 and 2 say it together, then children 1, 2 and 3, until the whole line is saying the sound together. The child at the front of the line races to the board and hits/writes the correct letter.
